Have you heard about the Welsh Government’s Warm Home NEST Scheme?
The NEST scheme aims to reduce the number of households in Wales who are struggling to keep their homes warm and cope with high energy bills. If your buy-to-let property is tenanted by somebody receiving means-tested benefits and is classed as energy inefficient (meaning a rating of E, F or G on its Energy Performance Certificate), you are likely to be eligible to receive home energy efficiency improvements for free.
For some landlords, this offering will be particularly useful as from April 2018 changes to legislation will make it unlawful to let residential properties with an Energy Performance Certificate with a rating of below an E.
Will my property be eligible for NEST?
Only homes with an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating of E, F or G are eligible under the scheme. If you’re unsure of the rating on your property, check online via the EPC Register.
Remember, you’re only eligible if your buy-to-let property is tenanted by somebody receiving means tested benefit.
If you are eligible, an expert Nest assessor will visit your home and recommend a tailored package of energy efficiency improvements that will help to make your home warmer and save you money on your energy bills.
What could NEST do for me?
Suggested energy efficiency improvements may include fitting a new central heating boiler, loft and wall insulation, and renewable energy technologies.
